Why Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Known as the ‘gentle art’, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a non– aggressive martial arts that teaches students more than just physical activity. Our programs intentionally focus on living skills such as confidence and focus.

Our Programs offer a high instructor to child ratio, meaning that your student will get more one-on-one time with the instructors.

Testimonals

Logan has started Jiu-jitsu six months ago and initially, we were not sure if he’d enjoy these close physical contact activities. As it turns out, he loves it and now regularly wants to go to class five times a week. Our experience at OpenMat has been amazing. All the teachers are very well-natured, patient and encouraging. They teach listening skills, discipline and respect by leading by example, meaning they treat all the kids equally and respectfully all the while teaching Jiu-jitsu in a fun and engaging way. Regularly, ways to defuse potentially aggressive situations are taught. I love how confident Jiu-jitsu has made Logan and the general anti-violence philosophy this martial art endorses.

Thank you for a great program!

When my daughter Winnie started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Open Mat when she was six, we were concerned about her being able to keep her focus in a challenging group activity. Part of our impetus for enrolling her in a martial art was to hone her listening skills and improve her self control and, a year later, her progress has exceeded all of our expectations. Not only has she learned many physical skills, but her enhanced concentration and self awareness is a real asset to other activities and the classroom. She continues to improve weekly and we are always pleased to take her to Open Mat.

Our two children, a 7 year old girl & a 9 year old boy, have been attending classes at Openmat since each of them were 5. They look forward to each class with great anticipation and relish in facing the physical and mental challenges they are presented with. They also seem to take great pleasure in the friendships they've made with both the other students, as well as the instructors.

I can't say enough about the quality of the Kids Class instructors; they are very good at simplifying for their young audience a subject matter that can be very complex. Most importantly they strive to make the kids feel very welcomed, ensuring that they have fun even while challenged.
